Fullbean Tutorials - Update the Plex Media Server

On a computer other than the Plex Media Server, go to https://www.plex.tv/downloads/ and select the 64-bit Ubuntu download

Do not actually download the file at this time. Just right click and copy the download URL to a text file

Connect a keyboard and mouse to the Plex Server (or telnet with SSH to this device using a program such as Putty if using Windows)

Log in to the Plex Server

To simplify finding the file to be downloaded in the next step, at the terminal, type cd ~ This will take you to your home directory.

Type wget followed by the download link address as copied above and press Enter

Example wget https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.3.3.3148-b38628e/plexmediaserver_1.3.3.3148-b38628e_amd64.deb

The terminal screen will reveal where the file was downloaded. Note that information.

Making sure that you are in the directory where the downloaded file is located, type

dpkg -i followed by the file location and then press Enter

Example dpkg -i 1.3.3.3148-b38628e/plexmediaserver_1.3.3.3148-b38628e_amd64.deb

Once that the package has installed, restart the Plex Media Server.
